Our steel, our people
The frame is built by people we employ, from steel we bend ourselves, with concrete ordered by the load for your plot. Here is who turns up and what arrives, week by week.
Fit out trades, the electrician, plumber and plasterer, are the same small firms we use on every house, working to our programme and our site manager.
Week 1
Fencing, welfare cabin, skip, mini digger
Week 2
Foundation cages from the yard, first concrete
Week 4
Column steel and formwork on the flatbed
Week 6
First floor slab, pumped in one day
Week 9
Roof slab, then the block for the infill
Week 12
Windows, roof covering, scaffold adapted
Week 14 on
Fit out materials in small drops, as the rooms need them
Timings are for a two storey house like the Formby. Every lorry is booked a day ahead and the site manager meets it.
Within about 40 miles of the yard in Litherland, which keeps the steel lorry and the site manager close.
Before we start a letter to every house that can see the plot, with the site manager’s number on it.
On the road lorries booked, never left idling, and the road swept after every pour.
On the plot fenced, signed and locked, with a welfare cabin so nobody needs to knock on a door.
At the end fencing out, skip gone, and the verge put back the way we found it.
